Inaugural "Handgunner" Tribute Match

What’s the best part of any match? The SHOOTOFFS! Yet how many shooters are allowed to participate? In 1992, Paul Miller of San Juan Range in Montrose Colorado had a dream. Why not let EVERYONE participate? An all Shootoff match.

For 15 years, Paul ran the most unique pistol match on the face of the planet. American Handgunner magazine, STI International, and a host of sponsors supported his efforts, and thousands of shooters had the time of their lives. The format? Two shooters face mirror image banks of targets, the start horn sounds, and the shooter who knocks his targets down first wins. Simple? Sure, until you try it! The intense pressure of man on man competition has caused many “top guns” to go down in defeat, causing one top shooter here in Mesa to say: “Anyone can win that match.” And that, of course, is the point. Anyone can win.

Now Paul has decided to retire and cease running this match.  We here in Phoenix (many of whom participated in multiple “Handgunner” matches) have decided to run an abbreviated version of this great match.  2 classes, open and limited, 5 stages, “run what you brung”, with participation limited to 64 shooters.  At the end of the day, we will take the top 8 from each class and shoot them off in a grand finale to determine the overall champion.  Prizes will be awarded by random draw.  (A “steel challenge” stage will be set up as a cash payback side event.)

Match fee is a modest $50.00.  Register today and you can say you were part of the first Phoenix “Handgunner.”
